Watering your lawn isn’t a very simple task. Actually, you can do it when you want it, but you can make a mistake. If you water it too much, your lawn will develop mold and it won’t look very nice. If you water it too little and in the wrong time of a day, it will die because you won’t provide enough water to it.
The ideal time to water your lawn is between 5am and 9am. By watering it during this time period, you eliminate the possibility that the water will be evaporating before it reach the plant’s roots. This means that your lawn will be more resistant to high temperatures. The only drawback is that you will have to wake up early.
Your lawn should be watered equally. With a sprinkler, this may be a problem. You should rotate it every 5-10 minutes in order to water your lawn equally. Remember that water must reach depth of 6-8 inches, because there are roots of the plants. You can check have you watered your lawn enough. Use a shovel and dig a small hose in order to see how deep the water has reached.
A rain gauge is something you should use. Also, monitor on the amount of water you are using for your lawn. If there was a rainy day (1/4 inch of rain a day ago), you should reduce the amount of water by 50%. Also, do not water your lawn a day after it rained. Wait 2-3 days and then water it.
Maybe it looks easy, but these tricks are very useful. With them, you can save a lot of water.
