It is bad enough that people have to suffer with severe snowstorms during the winter where they can barely get out of their homes. However, when snow storms cause flooding, people’s homes suffer irreparable damage or are destroyed completely, leaving the owners homeless. It is truly devastating. This winter, New Jersey was hit by severe snow storms that paralyzed the city and flooding from storm surges as well.
This winter, New Jersey has suffered one of the biggest snowstorms in over five years. Assessment teams have been working to determine the best plan of action after dealing with the snow and then flooding with power outages affecting thousands of homes and businesses. When a State of Emergency was declared, it was done so for a good reason. The Governor and government agencies are working to determine how to best resolve the situation and aid those in peril. When the area has to deal with up to two feet of snow dropping all at once and then melts very quickly due to increased temperatures, catastrophes happen. The storm brought severe winds that caused wave surges which swept over New Jersey.
While there is nothing that New Jersey, or any other state for that matter, can do to change the weather, there are many precautions that they are working to put in place for situations like this in the future. Unfortunately, this winter (due to the flooding) many people had their homes destroyed and will have to start over again. The government is determining what can be done and how to give the citizens the help they desperately need.
